Travellers flying Tiger Airways are now offered online check-in as part of the low cost carrier’s streamlined services.

Tiger Airways’ managing director Shelley Roberts said the introduction of web check-in meant Australians would save on travel time as well as the cost of their ticket.

Roberts said web check-in would open up a new market for the airline and the facility complemented Tiger Airways’ unique operating model which was focused on providing the absolute lowest fare for a seat, giving customers even more control in choosing what extras they may or may not want to pay for.

“We’re all about stripping back all costs to the absolute minimum and offering the seat at the lowest fare possible,” she said.

“If you don’t want checked luggage – don’t pay for it. Don’t want food? Don’t pay for it.

“We passionately believe that there is no reason why your fare should pay for someone else’s lunch. It’s up to the customer to tailor their flight with any additions they choose, to suit their budget and travel requirements,” she added.

Passengers can access their online check-in 48 hours before their flight and the service is available up to four hours before the scheduled departure time.

For on-line check in, passengers need to be over 15 years of age and be travelling with carry-on luggage only (up to 7kg).

They will need to be able to print their own bar-coded boarding pass and bring it with them in order to bypass the check-in queue and head directly to the boarding gate.
