Wild Mob releases volunteer holiday program for 2010
by Shamoli Dutt
27-04-2010
Wild Mob, a not for profit organisation, is seeking volunteers for its volunteer holiday programs in Australia.
The Brisbane-based organisation works with Australian natural resource managers to identify projects and then coordinates volunteers to take part.
A qualified team leader attends each camp and ensures volunteers experience a mix of hands on work and education as well as enough time to enjoy the local area.
Wild Mob business development manager, Andrew Elphinstone said participating in a Wild Mob project promised a unique holiday experience.
“We take school and university students on specific camps and a number of our volunteer groups are made up of individuals and families.
“It’s also a great team building exercise for corporate groups.
“Our projects are designed so that just about anyone can get involved, no matter their age, skill or experience,” he said.
“Volunteers can see idyllic locations such as Brampton Island while helping to save its vegetation, get up close and personal with turtles in the Cape York or climb Australia’s highest peak and help protect Mt Kosciuszko National Park.”
Wild Mob was founded by Graeme Wood (who began online accommodation website Wotif.com).
Projects scheduled for 2010 include:
Brampton Island Conservation Whitsundays (April to November);
Coral and marine animal monitoring and removing invasive vegetation at Homevale National Park, Queensland (May to November)
Researching and monitoring the small Quoll marsupial, vegetation management at
Hidden Valley Station, Townsville (May to July)
Platypus population studies and identifying and removing Lantana Camp Chiravee Turtle Rescue, Cape York Queensland (June to October)
Monitoring and protecting turtle nests at Tarkine Kings Run, Tasmania (September to April)
Planting native fauna and monitoring native animals and migratory birds at Mt Kosciuszko Conservation Project, NSW (December to February)
