Maria Island

Maria Island is situated on the east coast and named by the explorer Tasman in the year 1642. It is a favourite place for tourists and has an interesting history. A former penal settlement, many of the ruins are still to be seen. Motor launches run from Triabunna to the Island. The scenery is excellent, especially around Mount Maria, 701 metres. Fishing is a feature.
