Great Lake - Miena, TAS

144 km from Hobart

Great Lake is paradise for those with fishing and bushwalking interests, nestled in a delightful setting 990 metres above sea level on the Central Plateau. The traveler will find himself in the heart of an ideal place for a restful holiday. Camping grounds are available with every convenience.

The Lake is dammed at its southern outflow for hydro-electricity production. It is Australia's second largest freshwater lake (Lake Pedder is considered to be the largest), 1,030 metres above sea level.

The nearby towns of Liaweenee and Miena are popular holiday shack destinations for local tourists, despite the area's reputation as being one of the coldest places in the generally mild-weathered state. During the winter months the weather is not suitable to camping.
