Cenotaph, Martin Place, Sydney

The Cenotaph was erected in 1927 to honour the Australian soldiers and sailors who fell in the first World War. It is built of Moruya granite. The bronze figures of a soldier and a sailor which stand at either end of the main stone are the work of the Australian sculptor, Sir Bertram Mackennal.

There are three principal annual ceremonies at the Cenotaph: the Dawn Service at 4.30 am on Anzac Day 25th April; the Anzac Day March when the memorial and extensions are buried under floral tributes; and Remembrance Day Ceremony 11th November.
