Botanic Gardens, Brisbane

The Botanic Gardens are on the northern bank of the Brisbane River within a few minutes' walk of the heart of the city, and may be entered from Alice Street. In January, the avenues of poinciana (a Madagascan tree) provide welcome shade and spread a mass of brilliant orange-coloured blossoms overhead. In the Gardens there is a rare collection of palms and bamboos.

Concerts are held in the modern orchestral shell each Sunday afternoon, and during the summer the Queensland Symphony Orchestra conducts open air concerts on specified occasions. The Botanic Museum stands on rising ground near the Technical College on the southern boundary.
