Borroloola & Elliott Attractions

On the McCarthy River 95km from the Gulf of Carpentaria lies the once lawless frontier town of Borroloola. Today the town is the regional center of the Western Gulf and serves fishing and mining industries, surrounding pastoral properties and the growing tourist trade.

Principal attractions include ‘the Lost City’ – a cluster of warm-hued sandstone turrets and towers that stand on the barren and featureless desert to form a fairytale city against the horizon.

Other main attractions include: Simpsons Gap, the Four Arches, Newcastle Waters, Wave Hill and the Roper River as it flows into Limmen Bight.
