Tyalgum

Tyalgum

Tyalgum lies beside the middle arm of the Tweed River and the Oxley River. Nearby creeks are a gem fossicker’s paradise. Alluvial deposits here contain a variety of semi-precious stones including onyx, agate and jasper. “Thunder eggs” or spherulites, rocks of volcanic origin, sometimes contain gemstones including agate, amethyst and chalcedony. Tyalgum is a perfect base to explore the Caldera of the ancient Tweed volcano with excellent views of nearby Mount Warning and Border Ranges National Park to the west. The daunting rock formation known as the Pinnacle can be seen from here.
