Belmore Returned Services & Community Club - Belmore, NSW

Belmore Returned Services & Community Club

This friendly, relaxed club is situated on Burwood Road, in the heart of Sydney’s cosmopolitan suburb of Belmore, which is less than 20 minutes from the city centre. The club has an array of function facilities and a large entertainment area on the ground floor where members and guests can enjoy a drink and play light-hearted games for prizes. The club is particularly proud of its’ First Choice Buffet Restaurant located on the first floor and its famous reasonably-priced all-you-can-eat buffet lunch and dinner. The extensive international cuisine includes Asian foods, pizza, pasta, a carvery, salad bar, barbecue, deserts, cakes, coffee and tea. Lunch is 11.30am to 2.30pm, dinner 5.30pm to 9.30pm, daily.

Belmore Returned Services & Community Club opened in 1955 as a club for servicemen who had served in the Pacific during the Second World War. The driving force was founding member, Ron Pearson, a Belmore local, now in his 80s but still active in the club.

In remembrance of its early Pacific connections, one of the Club’s leisure lounges features a model of HMAS Warramunga, (1942-1959). Warramunga, a tribal class destroyer, patrolled the Pacific during the war and also carried out shore bombardments in support of ground forces.

Over the last 50 years, the Club has expanded to become a local community club with a relaxed atmosphere where members and guests can have a drink, enjoy top-rated food and participate in the regular entertainment, such as bingo and card games. The Club also has a TAB.

The Club underwent a major refurbishment in 1995 and is planning new extensions that will include an outdoor smoking area. A feature of the large lounge area is the restored art deco bar.

The Club also features two extraordinary works of art by a noted Australian artist, the late D’Arcy W. Doyle.

The art deco bar

One, Jungle Warfare, is an imposing work in oils and sculpture in a third dimensional style taking up one whole wall. The other is a brilliantly-coloured Sydney harbour scene in a mural style featuring the original Utzon design for the Sydney Opera House.

The Club is proud of its popular all-you-can-eat buffet, located in the First Choice Restaurant on the first floor where guests can dine on the extensive menu and enjoy good wines.

The club is happy to welcome out-of-town guests with some friendly “Belmore hospitality”. Any enquiries about Club facilities can be made with the Club Manager.
