The Ferrython Ferry Race, one of many events organised to celebrate Australia Day, is one of Sydney’s most loved annual large scale spectator events. Tens of thousands of sightseers flock into boats and along the harbour foreshore to cheer on the harbour ferries in ‘fancy dress’.

The race begins at 11.00am at Fort Denison in front of the Sydney Opera House. The ferries and spectator fleet, hundreds of various sized vessels, race up and around Shark Island and back to the finishing line under Sydney Harbour Bridge. The ferries compete for the coveted Lord Mayor’s Trophy and also the best dressed ferry award. After the race is concluded the ferries cruise around the harbour all afternoon.

The best vantage point is Fort Denison, Shark Island, Harbour Bridge or on the water in a spectator boat.

Come and join in the Australia Day festivities at Ferrython and celebrate Sydney’s love for the harbour and its commuter ferries.
